Ice Bar Signboard

This is the last part for the “ice cream” series. You can check out the first two parts here (for something delicious) and here (for drawing inspiration).

I don’t know if this is considered as cheating because in a glance, you may not be able to tell where the ‘ice cream’ theme comes in. Well, it’s actually a signboard that takes the shape of an upside down ice cream bar (I know, it looks more like a chopping board or a pizza pan). Anyway, I cheated my way down and made this sign to hang on our wall. Continue reading “Ice Bar Signboard”

Woven Rice Bag

This is the last part for the “morning” series. You can check out the first two parts here (for something delicious) and here (for drawing inspiration).

We had this rather sexist mindset when we were young that every morning, a father is expected to go to the office to work while a mother is expected to go to the wet market to buy groceries for the family. For our ‘morning’ theme, I was imagining a grocery bag made out of the rice plastic bag. Rice is our staple food and you can imagine how many bags we have accumulated over the years. We have been reusing the bags for many things; from garbage bags, weight bags to tree planting. Thinking that nobody (okay, may be not everybody) wants to go shopping literally holding a rice bag, I decided to do some weaving to sort of use it as camouflage (doesn’t work out as I imagined it could be, though). Anyway, let’s keep going! Continue reading “Woven Rice Bag”

Paper Cup Ruler Holder

This is the last part for the “cup” series. You can check out the first two parts here (for something delicious) and here (for drawing inspiration).

Coming from an art & design background, I have collected rulers with unique shapes in different sizes and I have trouble finding a container that would fit them all. I don’t own an architect’s scale but I think this will work fine by adjusting the width on the spacing (more on this below). So, here goes my take on creating a one-for-all ruler holder. Let’s start working. Continue reading “Paper Cup Ruler Holder”

Egg Shell Mosaic

I love the idea of creating something new by upcycling old, unused or broken things. If the newly transformed item turns useful, that’s wonderful, but if not, there’s always something new learned in the process of experimentation. For our first ‘egg’ project, I was kinda undecided whether I want to try my hands on the egg shells or the egg cartons. In the end, I went with the former and decided to leave the later for a possible future project. For this project, we’ll need egg shells, glue, paint and pasting surface. Let’s get going. The Beginning

Hi Everyone, we are Meryanche, Onellyantie and Julie, and welcome to From Scratch.

Here with us, you will go through creative projects looking from 3 different creative perspectives reflecting on a pre-decided theme each week. One comes straight from the kitchen, the other comes from the strokes of brushes and the last one catches up by making up stuff hand-crafting.

We decided to write this blog because the three of us wanted to do something creative on top of our daily repeating activities. While having our coffee, we came up with an idea of making a bilingual blog where we can share with everyone the things we have learned and the things we will be picking up from now eventually. Over the weeks, we discussed the basics such as the focus, the name and the content for the blog. We aim to share with everyone that anyone can make something from scratch by just using simple tools and ingredients like a pen to draw, a pair of scissors to craft and an egg to make food. And here we are, “From Scratch” was born.

Sekali lagi, selamat datang ke blog kami, “From Scratch”.
